Compare vehicle cover before you request insurer quotes.

Motor insurance belongs beside leasing because vehicle buyers need cover decisions before the vehicle is on the road. Start with cover type, vehicle value, NCB, add-ons, and digital card readiness.

Quote inputs

What insurers usually need

  • No-claim bonus or NCB years
  • Vehicle type, value, age, and use
  • Driver profile and claims history
  • Add-ons such as towing, glass, passenger or personal accident cover
  • Digital card or printed certificate preference

Cover types to compare

The marketplace should explain the difference before showing plan cards. Price alone is not enough when exclusions, excess, add-ons, and claim handling change the outcome.

Broadest cover

Comprehensive cover

For own vehicle damage plus third-party liability, with add-ons such as towing, windscreen, personal accident, flood, or natural perils depending on the insurer.

Budget aware

Third-party, fire and theft

For owners who want a middle path between legal liability cover and selected own-risk protection.

Legal baseline

Third-party only

The statutory baseline for vehicles on public roads. It covers legal liability to third parties, not damage to the insured vehicle.

Insurance plan cards

Typed plan cards now hold insurer, cover type, digital-card readiness, add-ons, excess notes, quote mode, and request routing for provider follow-up.

Quote request

Send vehicle details to insurance providers.

Share the details insurers normally need before pricing: vehicle value, use, cover type, NCB, add-ons, and contact information.

Add-ons

Digital card readiness

Sri Lanka Police notes that insurers started issuing digital motor insurance cards from 1 May 2026, with verification through USSD, SMS, or hotline on 1338. This means plan cards should eventually show whether a provider supports digital card delivery and quick verification.

Quote workflow

Start with an indicative range, then request insurer confirmation with vehicle details, registration, claims history, and selected add-ons.
